The 1000 Mile Dream takes you behind the scenes on a nostalgic, wheel-gripping ride-along in a Mille Miglia of the late 1950´s.

An eclectic, international cast of characters, each with his own agenda including seduction and intrigue, race against each other for the coveted Coppa Mazzotti in an all-out, death dealing circuit around Italy. Their individual triumphs and failures are not resolved until the winning car crosses the finish line in Brescia in an unexpected ending.

About the Author James Fontana is from Fort Frances, Ontario — Boundary Waters Country — where Rainy Lake connects Canada and the USA and the bass fishing is the eighth wonder of the world. His inspiration for the novel happened at the age of twelve, in 1950, while visiting, with his parents, their hometown Lucca, in Tuscany. Jim saw the passage of the Mille Miglia that year, won by Giannino Marzotto driving a 166/195 Ferrari. Each year after that, the local radio station would let him monitor the Mille Miglia standings as the race progressed around Italy and the results came in on the teletype from Europe. Jim pursues his interest in motorsport (keeping three old sports cars running smoothly), fishing and writing. He has published books on law including True Crime, and has written motorsport articles for the newspapers. On occasion he has been invited to judge at concourses of Italian cars.

He and his wife Maggie live near Ottawa, Ontario, about thirty minutes from Ogdensburg, New York, with an entourage of three cats and a dog.
