The beak sings

The wing flies

thinks to rise
above a concrete realm

The eye pierces
sees the hole in the universe
where things leak out
where we will all go
when this is finished
when we have seen our last video
eaten our last burger

The feather floats,
after the collision

of heart and highrise,

About the Author

Cornelia Hornosty (née DeYoung) born in Chicago in 1939; has a B. A. in French Literature from Oberlin College, Ohio, with studies in Grenoble, France; and an M. A. in French Literature from McMaster University. She lived in Ontario for 28 years, and now lives in Victoria, B.C. She has published poems and fiction in a number of Canadian literary magazines, such as Canadian Literature, Canadian Forum, Queen´s Quarterly, Malahat Review, New Quarterly, Grain, Pottersfield Portfolio, and the Dalhousie Review.

Two other collections of poetry were published by Borealis Press: Voice with Flowers (1991) and The Inner Romaine of Our Lives (2000).
