About the Book    Always a Patricia is the follow-on to Syd Frost´s earlier book Once a Patricia. In that book he told the story of his experience in the PPCLI in World War II and he ended with an account of the pilgrimages he made back to the battlefields in later years to pay respects to the memory of those who did not return - a commitment he made when wounded.
In Always a Patricia Syd continues the story of remembrance, including his efforts to see that the actions of Canadians in Sicily, Italy and North West Europe are remembered and the graves of those who fell are cared for appropriately. His engaging account contains details of the obstacles that bureaucracy and indifference placed in his path so many years after the war ended. It also contains heart-warming accounts of the assistance he was given by local inhabitants, whose gratitude for the sacrifices of Canadian soldiers greatly helped him achieve his goal of enhancing remembrance.
The expression "Once a Patricia, always a Patricia" is one that all who serve in the PPCLI learn when they join and never forget. Syd Frost is a Patricia who has never forgotten, and in this book he counsels us all to remember what Canadian soldiers achieved on the battle fields of Europe more than half a century ago. It is a fascinating account and wise and compelling counsel.
