A young Irish farmer must face the reality of a grim future, starvation, and a corrupt justice system in the mid-1800s. During his flight from a seemingly hopeless situation, he meets a young woman who is also fleeing her own personal demons, and together they seek substance, love and survival in a new and unfamiliar world. Their journey presents a challenge to their personal values, determination and place in the world.

About the Author

In 2009, Michael McCarthy published his first book, From Cork to the New World: A Journey for Survival, now in its second printing. Additionally, he has published numerous articles for the NorthEast College and University Security Association (NECUSA)´s The Clipboard and the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA)´s Campus Law Enforcement Journal. Mr. McCarthy served as editor for The Clipboard for six years. For the past 14 years, Mr. McCarthy has been the Director of Safety and Security at St. John Fisher College (Rochester, N.Y.). Previously, he was a Police Investigator with the Rochester Police Department, before retiring with twenty years of service. Mr. McCarthy was born and raised in Lockport, and currently resides with his wife, Ann, on Dublin Road in Penfield, New York.
