About the Book    Philip Pochailo, born in the small town of Rainy River in North-Western Ontario in 1920, enlisted in the RCAF in 1942 as aircrew and went overseas in August of 1943. After advanced training as a Bombardier in Great Britain, he was assigned to a British Crew in No.1 Bomber Command in April 1944.
His aircraft was shot down over the Netherlands on May 21/22 and only he and another crew member survived. His Pilot, captured by the Germans, spent the rest of the war in a prisoner-of-war camp. The Author evaded capture and joined the Dutch Resistance Movement where he lived and worked for the next 12 months. He was liberated by Canadian troops in Rotterdam in 1945.
Mr. Pochailo returned to Canada after the war but went back to Holland 25 and 50 years later to thank his "Helpers" and to pay his respects to his fallen crew members, buried in that country.
   This is his story.
