About the Book Vancouver! combines historical and fictional characters in a saga of the birth and building of the world´s most beautiful city. Young people invest their hearts and souls in its street and enterprises, their fortunes won and lost as Vancouver´s harbour and railways open to the Pacific trade and all of the world. But, although set amongst blue mountains, natural beaches and virgin forests, Vancouver! from the beginning suffers a vicious opium trade and all the usual vices settlement brings. The characters struggle with addictions, murderous obsessions, devotions to business, art and each other, and living their lives, they build Vancouver.

About the Author Born in New Westminster in 1950 and raised in Surrey, B.C., Linda Wikene Johnson has lived and worked all her life in various parts of British Columbia. She graduated from U.B.C. with a M.F.A. in Creative Writing. Her first collection of poetry, Showcase Animals was published by Press Porcepic. Vancouver! is her first novel. She has been a railway clerk, a tree assessor for the B.C. Forestry Department, a postal worker, a college instructor, and a securities broker. She lives in Langley, B.C. with her husband and assorted pets. Her daughter, a graphic designer, lives in Vancouver.
