Linda Wikene Johnson (1950- ), a British Columbia native, has a M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia. She currently resides in Langley, B.C., along with her husband and varied pets. Borealis Press has published her first novel, "Vancouver." Her first collection of poetry is "Showcase Animals." She has worked as a railway clerk, a postal worker, a securities broker, a college instructor, and a tree assessor for the forestry department of British Columbia.

Vancouver! combines historical and fictional characters in a saga of the birth and building of the world´s most beautiful city. Young people invest their hearts and souls in its street and enterprises, their fortunes won and lost as Vancouver´s harbour and railways open to the Pacific trade and all of the world. But, although set amongst blue mountains, natural beaches and virgin forests, Vancouver! from the beginning suffers a vicious opium trade and all the usual vices settlement brings. The characters struggle with addictions, murderous obsessions, devotions to business, art and each other, and living their lives, they build Vancouver.
